If you are a US citizen, you'll need a visa. Just google "Russian Consulate NY" (it's located on 91 street, thats the closest to New Jersey). When dealing with any Russian agencies, ALWAYS call ahead and confirm that you have all the documents that they require, because they update their website about once every 15 years. The best (and pretty much only) way you're getting to Russia on a direct flight is out of JFK airport, on Delta Airlines or Aeroflot (if flying to Moscow). Aeroflot has better airplane food, but if you don't speak russian, i suggest going for Delta. Flights out of Newark do not go to Moscow directly, you'll have to switch in Europe. I usually get tickets through discount sites like www.orbitz.com or www.expedia.com If you are planning to go in the summer (tourist season), you're looking at about $800/roundtrip ticket. If you go off-season (October through end of March), its $450-$550 roundtrip.

i do no longer think of that the US did no longer take action.. they in all probability gave a warning to the Russia Air tension or warn them that if that happens back the plane would be shoot down.. possibly the Russian pilot replaced into on undertaking or did a mistake..
